Just finished my wedding cake today. It took forever.

I got inspired very randomly and abandoned all my previous notions about styles. Despite Chef's frequent reminder that it is fall... I went super spring.

My theme is honeycombs and daisies. I actually cut each tier into a hexagon to resemble a honeycomb. All the daisies are made of pastillage (which makes them break super easy) and are painted with super pearl and gold dust. The bees and paste on honeycombs are made of gumpaste and are painted with the same stuff. The honeycomb gumpaste was also dyed first. The bee tracks and beading around the base is royal icing. Lastly, the bottom tier was covered then I quickly drew the honeycomb pattern into the fondant by hand, after which I put gold dusted dragées in every corner (OMG I am insane).

I was told to cheat a tiny bit. I assembled the large pieces (flowers and bees) with hot glue not royal icing because, 1) the cake is fake, no one is gonna eat it, and 2) they have to be on display for the rest of the semester without falling apart. I now believe someone needs to invent edible hot glue.
So many pictures!Collapse )

It's been a long time since I posted anything Jpop related.  Actually I hardly ever do because there is not a lot of Jpop I like. lol
I just don't really like the style that seems mandatory for all the pop groups these days.  That and I really think most of the songs sound identical.  Seriously, I watched a count-down mash up the other day and... when I stopped looking at the screen I really had a hard time telling when the songs changed. lol  So, I usually have nothing to say on the topic.

However... I found this too funny not to post.

I love Yamapi, I really do.  Just ask my cousin. lol
But I cannot stop laughing at his new single.  It's not that the song is bad or anything.  It's just... so much Engrish.
First—the part that makes me unable to keep a straight face—if you are going to have an English title, I suggest being able to pronounce the title.  It's, "One in a Million," not, "One in a Mirrion."
Second, he is singing a lot more English then I would ever think listening to him.  Check out the lyrics on the live performance —> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2B4NyP88QFk

That said, it's one of his better songs, in my opinion.  And big plus, it's not in that style that I hate. lol

I've posted these on book LJs but I figured I might as well put a back up archive of links here.  All one massive post.  Anyone taking anything keep in mind that resources range from the phrase book type to full blown textbooks with workbooks.  Some are even grammar books completely in the target language.  For the Mandarin books, some use simplified text, others use traditional, a few use both.  Some of these I gathered for myself, some were by the request of others, so I have not read through all of these to make sure they are complete or any good.

I love Se7en, don't get me wrong.  He's more epic than Rain in my opinion and a million times cuter, not to mention quite a bit younger while profiting from a relitivly equal level of success and talent.  (I am not counting acting careers because... let's face it, neither man can act.)

But SERIOUSLY?  1100+ comments on omona within 6 hours of his comeback MV being posted?

That is some crazy levels of fangirling going on.

Most people seem to be underwhelmed by his first song.  As for me, I like it.
It's upbeat and makes you wanna get up and dance—Which is pretty much the kind of music I have liked ever since I was released from the hospital the first time.  High energy music kept my batteries charged and still does.—It also has four separate beats in just the one song to show off Se7en's vocal and genre range.  It's mostly the middle tone, not rapping, not ballady, just nice upbeat and catchy singing. (Rap is not a genre, it's an accent to real music. lol)

And my favorite part of Se7en's comeback is... his hair.
To be honest, it's his look in general.  I am so happy he has toned down that awful L.A. gangsta look and that his hair has grown back.  He looked fine with the short hair, surprisingly good actually.  But UNF! I missed those fluffy locks.

If you were kidnapped today and locked in a basement without internet and haven't seen the new MV, the link is up there.
The best way to end a post is with delicious picspam, yes?

Welcome back Sexylips~

I interrupt my scheduled nonexistence to bring you some fangirling.

Freaking love Xiu's pants. XD

DCW formal debut and album is finally here!!!  Well, on the 16th.  But still. Squeeeee~
This is such a coincidence because I swear not even a week ago I was asking Resie if it would ever happen. lol

The product description is both funny and depressing though.
D.C.W. or Dong Cheng Wei was the band that Fahrenheit's Jiro Wang formed when he was in high school. Five years later, Jiro has already hit the big time with the idol group, and the rest of the D.C.W. members are finally making their formal debut in 2010. The four perseverant dream-chasers are Shu (leader and guitarist), Vike (vocalist and rhythm guitarist), FreeDun (bassist), and Ming (drums). With little money to carry on but lots of desire to make their music heard, the band swallowed their pride to take part in a trio of idol dramas, KO One, The X-Family and, especially, K.O.3anGuo, which eventually gave them the break. The Taiwan pop/rock band's self-titled first album offers six hard rock numbers, including the band's music prototype "Split", anti-war anthem "Stop War With War", rock ballad "The Distance of Angels", and the debut single "Enough Love" penned by A-chord Hsieh.
REALLY?  It was only KO3 that was enough to get them a real record?  That is freaking stupid.  But I laughed pretty hard at the apparent disdain at having to do idol dramas.  And that they can really just blame on Jiro, since I'm sure it was his idea.  Speaking of Jiro, can we all take a moment to thank the gods of rock that he is only present on this album in name (since they can't change their name now that they have a following).  I know he wants to be a rock star so bad and has sort of convinced himself he is a rock star... but the boy can't really sing, especially on his own.  So, I'm very happy to see Vike is a permanent fixture.

In conclusion, DCW boys, you are awesome.  Congratulations.  You totally deserve and have earned this.  I wish it hadn't taken so long.  Xiu, please don't run from the dramas!  You are full of too much adorable and goofy to be so sexy serious bad ass all the time.

Let's end this post with some music.  Unfortunately the only preview I can find is Stop War with War. All the other stuff in not 100% DCW songs.  Like the A chord and Pets versions of Enough Love... DCW rocks the songs but Vike isn't singing... so...

God I have not posted in a long time.  Even personal posts have been sparse.
School really is all consuming sometimes.  I also haven't had much time to study outside of my school subjects. Yes, I'm lame.

Totally hijacked from nciku blogs, I thought this was a very helpful lesson.

Copy/paste lesson~ :PCollapse )
