Just finished my wedding cake today. It took forever.

I got inspired very randomly and abandoned all my previous notions about styles. Despite Chef's frequent reminder that it is fall... I went super spring.

My theme is honeycombs and daisies. I actually cut each tier into a hexagon to resemble a honeycomb. All the daisies are made of pastillage (which makes them break super easy) and are painted with super pearl and gold dust. The bees and paste on honeycombs are made of gumpaste and are painted with the same stuff. The honeycomb gumpaste was also dyed first. The bee tracks and beading around the base is royal icing. Lastly, the bottom tier was covered then I quickly drew the honeycomb pattern into the fondant by hand, after which I put gold dusted dragées in every corner (OMG I am insane).

I was told to cheat a tiny bit. I assembled the large pieces (flowers and bees) with hot glue not royal icing because, 1) the cake is fake, no one is gonna eat it, and 2) they have to be on display for the rest of the semester without falling apart. I now believe someone needs to invent edible hot glue.

Also, some of the competition's my classmates' cakes.
